DUI IKEA chandelier

Designfenzider designed the kickin’ chandelier shown above called “Dear Ingo”. It got me thinkin’. One can easily build their very own Dear Ingo chandelier. Just head down to IKEA and buy 16 Tertial desk lamps. They currently go for $9 a pop. You don’t even have to use 16 lamps. It’s more dramatic with 16, but you can attain a similiar effect with probably 8-10.

The first consideration is the base. But that shouldn’t be too much of a problem. I have a couple IKEA Tertial lamps. They have a 1.25″ nubbie at the bottom which has a 0.5″ diameter (not shown in photo above). Just drill a bunch of holes in a circular piece of plywood. The hardest part will be figuring out how to hang from your ceiling. Four heavy-duty wires at the ends of the plywood base should solve that problem. You’ll need to anchor in the ceiling somehow. You’re on your own there. And the lights need an outlet of some sort. I’m no electrician, but it can’t be that hard.

I’m going to agree with you that you could achieve the same look and feel with less lamps. 16 seems excessive, though I guess it would really depending on the scale of the room.
