local libraries

I’m pretty fortunate to have so many easily accessible libraries. The Wheaton Public Library I frequent most. It’s a two-minute drive from work. It’s my lunch-time refuge. I realized a couple weeks ago that the Glen Ellyn Public Library is also a two-minute drive from work. Back in 1997/8 during my first post-college job, the GEPL was my lunch-time refuge.

The Helen Plum Memorial Library (in Lombard, IL) and Villa Park Public Library are directly on my driving path home. And then the coo-day-craw of them all is the library for my hometown, the Elmhurst Public Library. It is the most beautiful public library I have ever visited. Though it’s a 5 minute drive beyond my house.

I have two libraries that are pretty close within reach for me. But I rarely frequent them. The Harold Washington Library is 12 blocks away, but that makes it a half-hour trip to get there via walking or public transit. The Sulzer Library is three blocks away from the train stop at home. But it’s three blocks in the wrong direction. Sometimes I’ll go there, but I know now to not lock my bike in front of the Sulzer Library. It got stolen last year on the weekend of halloween.

whoa, that photo you used in this post. We commented pretty heavily on this photo in the past.
